Documents required to apply for a British visa (Great Britain - England)

When applying for a UK visa, applicants are required to submit certain documents. These documents are listed below and are mandatory. Additional documents may be required depending on the type of visa requested and other factors, if applicable. The main ones are listed below.

Documents you must provide from all UK visa applicants (Great Britain - England)

  1. The UK visa application form must be completed on the official website and printed. Site link here
  2. A valid passport (national passport or other document allowing the holder to travel abroad).
  3. Bank statement or current account.
  4. Bank statements or letters issued more than one year before the date of the request
  5. Work certificate and salary statement to prove income, such as a letter from your employer confirming employment details (start date, salary, role, contact details of the company or organization you work for)
  6. A letter from your education provider, on university or institute letterhead, confirming your enrollment and discharge
  7. If the visa applicant is self-employed
  8. Business registration documents (Commercial Registry) confirming the name of the business owner and the date the business was established
  9. Business Activities - Where you have come to the UK to carry out any business related to your profession/work outside the UK you must provide documentation showing what you will be doing in the UK including any letters from organizations inviting.
  10. All business activities, for example a letter from your employer explaining the reason for your visit, who you will be interviewing and details of any payments/expenses

All documents must be originals and not photocopies. Submission of these documents does not guarantee the success of your application and you should take them into account when making any reservations.

If you submit a document in Arabic, it must be accompanied by a complete translation which can be independently verified by the Ministry of Interior. Each translated document must contain the following:

  • The translator confirms that it is a faithful translation of the original document
  • Date of translation
  • The full name and signature of the translator
  • Translator contact details

Additional requirements depending on your professional situation

You will need to provide additional documents depending on your employment status, as follows:

If you are an employee:
  • A letter from the employer. This letter should confirm your position, salary and length of employment.
If you are self-employed:
  • Business registration documents. They must confirm the name of the business owner and the date the business started operations.
If you are a student:
  • A letter from your education provider. The letter must confirm your registration and discharge.

Additional requirements for applicants under 18

Applicants under the age of 18 are required to submit additional documents. These documents are:
  • Birth certificate.
  • Adoption papers (if applicable).
If you are traveling alone or with someone other than the parent(s):
  • A letter signed by the parent(s) confirming the contact details of any person accompanying the minor.
  • A copy of the biographical page of the parent(s) or legal guardian of their passport.

Documents to be presented at the UK entry point

At the port of entry into the UK you will need to show certain documents to the Border Police.

If you are an EU/EEA citizen, you can use the EU/EEA channel to scan your documents. You only need your identity card or passport. Adults must accompany children 17 and under.

Nationals of non-EU/EEA countries need the following documents when presenting at the UK port of entry:
