Donald Trump’s Approval Rating Goes Underwater in Two More States—Poll

Polls Show Trump Losing Ground in Key States Amid Rising Economic and Foreign Policy Concerns

President Donald Trump’s approval ratings have fallen below water in two states he previously carried, further diminishing his national standing, according to a newly released poll.

Why It Matters

In under six months since beginning his second term, Trump’s presidency has been marked by a series of aggressive policy moves targeting illegal immigration, an onslaught of executive orders, economic instability sparked by enforced tariffs, and mounting concerns over possible U.S. involvement in the escalating Israel-Iran conflict.

What To Know

A recent Morning Consult survey tracking voter opinions on Trump’s job performance across all 50 states—updated Wednesday—reveals that his net approval remains positive in just 26 states, down from 29 in May.

Notably, Trump is now underwater in Pennsylvania and Iowa, two states he narrowly won in 2024 with approximately 50.37% and 56% of the vote, respectively, against Kamala Harris.

His approval ratings in Arizona have also slipped, with the state now registering a statistical tie at 49%-49%.

The data comes from Morning Consult’s daily tracking poll of registered voters, with margins of error varying by state—from ±6 percentage points in smaller states like Wyoming to ±1 point in larger states such as California.

While Trump’s national net approval remains slightly positive, he now holds favorable ratings in only three of the seven swing states that were key to his reelection: Georgia, Nevada, and North Carolina.

This shift in voter sentiment could have significant implications for upcoming gubernatorial races and the 2026 midterms.

In Virginia, currently led by Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin, Trump’s approval has dipped to 46%, with 52% disapproving—marking a one-point decline from the previous month.

Trump’s ratings have remained largely unchanged in New Jersey, where 44% of voters approve of his performance, and 53% disapprove. Republican Jack Ciattarelli is hoping to flip the traditionally blue state by challenging Democratic Representative Mikie Sherrill in the upcoming gubernatorial race.

Looking ahead to the 2026 races, which could alter the balance of power in Congress, Trump’s disapproval in Maine—represented by Republican Senator Susan Collins—has increased, with 59% now expressing disapproval, up two points since May.

Among the states most firmly aligned on Trump, Wyoming leads in support with a 69% approval rating, while Vermont holds the highest level of disapproval at 64%.

Trump has pointed to other favorable polls, including a new Insider Advantage survey conducted June 15–16 among 1,000 likely voters, which showed him with a 54% approval rating and 44% disapproval—yielding a net approval of +10 points.

Great Poll Numbers For Trump!” the president proclaimed Wednesday on Truth Social.

What Happens Next

With domestic economic conditions and international tensions both in flux, voter attitudes may continue to shift—either bolstering or eroding Trump’s current approval trajectory.
