Trump Apparently Didn’t Know His Own Bill’s Extreme Medicaid Plan
A Republican representative reportedly had to tell Donald Trump what’s in his “big, beautiful bill.”
President Trump is completely ignorant of the contents of his comprehensive, term-specific budget bill. The Knot reported Wednesday that House Republicans had to inform the president that his “huge, beautiful bill” actually cut Medicaid.
Trump met with more moderate House Republicans on Wednesday, where he explained that they must leave three items unchanged if they want to win in 2026 and 2028: Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security.
One of the members briefed the president, according to Knot sources.
Trump has never been the most eccentric of men, but his apparent ignorance about the attack on Medicaid in his “huge, beautiful bill” is disturbing. Either he’s in cahoots with the Heritage Foundation while its people indoctrinate him with legislation, or his mental faculties must be questioned. Or both.
Trump’s budget bill would divert millions of dollars from the Medicaid program to fund tax breaks for the nation’s wealthiest. At least 17 million Americans are expected to lose their health insurance by 2034, due to changes to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act. It’s not that Trump doesn’t understand this; he simply seems unaware of its existence. To him, this bill is nothing more than a Republican loyalty test, complete with a huge check.
