Chuck Schumer Confronts Trump For ‘Selling Out Ukraine’ In Fiery Post

Schumer said that Trump's failure to reach an agreement to end the war in Ukraine won't earn him the Nobel Peace Prize he's been vying for.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) accused President Donald Trump of “betraying” Ukraine after Trump failed to announce an agreement to end the war at his crucial meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Apparently, Trump is betraying Ukraine again and kowtowing to dictator Putin,” Schumer tweeted Saturday. “No Nobel Peace Prize for that.”

Trump said he and Putin made “significant progress” at their summit in Anchorage, Alaska, on Friday, to which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was not invited, despite the lack of an agreement on the ongoing war.

In an interview Friday night with Fox News, Trump said it was now up to President Zelensky to carry out this task, adding, “We have a very good chance of getting this done.” Trump and Zelensky are scheduled to meet Monday in the Oval Office.

Schumer’s scathing social media post follows former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s suggestion that Trump be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize if he were able to negotiate a ceasefire with Putin.

Trump responded sarcastically to Clinton’s remarks, telling Fox News’ Bret Baier, “That was very kind. I may have to reconsider.”

Trump has repeatedly complained about not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, a prestigious award won by his rival Barack Obama and three other US presidents.

Meanwhile, several of his allies have proposed nominations for Trump, and his advisers have publicly campaigned for him to receive the prize, citing examples of global peace agreements that the White House claims Trump helped broker and that would qualify him for the honor.

Last month, White House press secretary Carolyn Leavitt said the president had “negotiated, on average, one peace agreement or ceasefire per month during his six months in office. It’s long past time to award President Trump the Nobel Peace Prize.”

In another post on X on Friday, Schumer criticized Putin, the “authoritarian tyrant,” accusing Trump of “rolling out the red carpet” for him.

He wrote: “Donald Trump rolled out the red carpet for Vladimir Putin, the authoritarian tyrant. Instead of supporting Ukraine and our allies, Trump stood with an autocrat who has terrorized the Ukrainian people and the world for years.”

He called the meeting between the two men “a mere charade.”

He added: “Pending substantive details of the discussions, it appears at first glance that Trump has granted Putin legitimacy, a global platform, no accountability, and received nothing in return. We fear this is not diplomacy, but a charade.”
