Epstein Birthday Letter With Trump’s Signature Revealed

Lawyers for Epstein’s estate have given Congress a copy of the 2003 birthday book

Lawyers for Jeffrey Epstein’s estate have provided Congress with a copy of the financier’s birthday book, which contains a letter signed by Trump, the existence of which he has denied.

On Monday, members of the House Oversight Committee confirmed they had received a copy of the birthday book, which contained the letter signed by Trump.

“President Trump called the Epstein investigation a hoax and claimed his birthday letter didn’t exist. Now we know Donald Trump was lying and doing his best to hide the truth,” said Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.), the committee’s ranking Democrat. “Stop the spin and the lies. Release the full record now.”

In July, The Wall Street Journal published a story about the book and the letter bearing Trump’s name, which featured printed text surrounded by a drawing of a nude woman. The letter concluded: “Happy birthday—and may each day be another wonderful secret.” The signature was a wavy “Donald” below the waist, mimicking pubic hair.

Trump denied writing or drawing the letter, calling it “fake.” He also sued the newspaper’s journalists, publisher Dow Jones, its parent company, News Corp., and its executives, accusing them of defamation and claiming the letter “does not exist.” A Dow Jones spokeswoman said, “We have full confidence in the accuracy and precision of our reporting.”

White House spokeswoman Carolyn Levitt did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday.

The Trump administration’s shifting statements about releasing the files it holds on Epstein have hung over the White House for months. On September 3, Trump called attempts to release more details about Epstein a politically motivated hoax, as some of Epstein’s convicted victims went to the Capitol to testify about their sexual abuse and called on the president and Congress to release more documents.

Trump allies have long sought to release documents related to Epstein, but the Justice Department announced in July that it no longer had the list of clients involved in trafficking young girls and that no new records would be released. The decision sparked controversy among some of Trump’s most prominent supporters and a congressional effort to obtain the documents.

Lawyers for Epstein’s estate executors turned over a copy of the Christmas book on Monday in response to a subpoena from Rep. James Comer (R-KY), chairman of the House Oversight Committee. In a July 25 letter to attorneys for Epstein’s estate, Reps. Garcia and Ro Khanna (D-CA) urged the estate to publish the book “to contribute to transparency and accountability.”

The Christmas book, given to Epstein in 2003—before his first arrest in 2006—was professionally bound and contained letters from dozens of Epstein’s associates at the time, including Trump, former President Bill Clinton, and billionaire Leon Black, according to the Wall Street Journal. Some messages were simple birthday greetings, but others contained sexual innuendo and suggestive drawings or photos.

The newspaper reported that Trump was listed in the “Friends” section of the book’s table of contents, along with Clinton and about 20 other associates. Trump and Epstein dated in the 1990s in Palm Beach, Florida. Trump traveled on Epstein’s private plane, according to flight logs. Epstein was also photographed several times at his Mar-a-Lago resort.

During Epstein’s second arrest in 2019, Trump said he hadn’t spoken to him in about 15 years. This summer, he told reporters he had a falling out with Epstein because his wealthy neighbor had hired Mar-a-Lago staff.

The Wall Street Journal reported that some people who helped Epstein’s ex-girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, with the Christmas book project more than 20 years ago recalled seeing Trump’s page among the documents they were compiling at the time.

Maxwell recently told Justice Department officials that she had compiled a book for Epstein’s 50th birthday, but she couldn’t recall the names of the people who contributed to it.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the Justice Department informed Trump in May that his name appeared repeatedly in government files related to Epstein. Trump was also informed of the names of several other prominent figures. The mention of his name in these files does not constitute evidence of wrongdoing. The White House called this information “fake news.”
