Trump Melts Down at Supreme Court Justices in Unhinged Truth Social Rampage: “Decision That Mattered Most to Me”

The president said his attack against the nation’s highest court would cause him “nothing but problems in the future.”

Donald Trump unleashed a furious tirade against the Supreme Court after it ruled that several sweeping tariffs imposed by the president had been implemented illegally—a decision that, it should be noted, was handed down several weeks ago.

In a lengthy and rambling post on Truth Social, Trump—now 79 years old—declared that the ruling issued last February by the nation’s highest court was a decision that “mattered tremendously to me,” further insinuating that this judgment was the cause of the state of “massive decline” in which the United States now finds itself mired.

In a 6-3 majority ruling, the Supreme Court determined that Trump lacked the necessary authority to impose his tariffs under a 1977 law originally designed to address national emergencies. Following this embarrassing setback, Trump announced the imposition of new baseline tariffs, set at 10% globally, invoking Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974—a provision granting the president the power to impose tariffs for a period of 150 days.

In his furious Truth Social post, Trump launched a scathing attack against the progressive justices who voted to thwart his initial tariff plans, as well as against the three conservative justices who joined them in that vote: Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett (both appointed by Trump to the Supreme Court during his first term), in addition to Chief Justice John Roberts.

Trump wrote: “The Democrats on the Court always tend to ‘stick together,’ regardless of the strength of the arguments or the merits of the cases presented to them; …it is rare to observe the slightest “hesitation” on their part.”

He added: “Republicans, on the other hand, do not act this way; they openly display contempt toward the presidents who appointed them to the highest offices in the land—namely, the position of Justice on the United States Supreme Court. In fact, they go even further, issuing erroneous and misguided rulings, and adopting inaccurate positions in an effort to prove their ‘honest,’ ‘independent,’ and ‘legitimate.’”

Trump continued: “Our country has been the target of an unjustified act of ‘plunder and sabotage’ perpetrated by the United States Supreme Court, which is now nothing more than a politicized and weaponized political organization, completely devoid of justice.

The sad reality is that its performance will only deteriorate further over time!” Trump also voiced his grievance that the Supreme Court—which he characterized as “incompetent and embarrassing”—had failed to support his baseless claim that the 2020 election was subject to “fraud” specifically targeting him.

Trump concluded by declaring: “All I can do, as President of the country, is openly criticize them and publicly hold them accountable for this reprehensible conduct!” He added: “This statement regarding the United States Supreme Court will likely only land me in trouble down the road; however, I believe it is my duty to speak the truth.”

In a subsequent post, Trump launched a scathing attack against Federal Judge James Boasberg, after the latter ruled that there was insufficient evidence to support the Department of Justice’s investigation targeting Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.

The judge ruled that the subpoenas issued against Powell by the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Jessie Liu, were intended to “harass and pressure” him into lowering interest rates—a move sought in response to demands that Trump had repeatedly and insistently reiterated.

Trump wrote: “Boasberg has demonstrated blatant, outrageous, and extreme partisan bias, as well as contempt for Republicans and the Trump administration. To preserve the integrity of the judicial system, he should be recused from all cases involving us and face strict disciplinary action—a standard that should also apply to the many other corrupt judges our country has, unfortunately, been forced to tolerate.”

He added: “He embodies the exact opposite of what a judge should be! Boasberg would have been better off focusing on the administration of justice and fairness, rather than pursuing his own political agenda—as well as that of the Democrats—the notoriety of which has become LEGENDARY!”

Boasberg, who was appointed to the federal judiciary by former President Barack Obama, is a longtime adversary of the President.

Trump had previously called for Boasberg’s removal last year, after the judge blocked the administration’s attempts to rapidly deport Venezuelan migrants—individuals the administration had characterized as members of criminal gangs—by invoking the “Alien Enemies Act” of 1798.
