What is Express Entry?
Express Entry is an online system used by the Canadian government to organize and process applications from skilled workers who wish to immigrate to Canada and obtain Canadian permanent resident status. The system administers three major federal economic programs:
- Federal Skilled Worker (FSW)
- Federal Professions (FST)
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
How do I apply for Express Entry?
Applying for Express Entry is a two-step process. The first step is to submit your profile which requires the following documents:
- Language test results
- Educational Accreditation Assessment Report
- Passport or travel document
After submitting your profile and receiving an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada, you will need to submit a more substantial application including reference letters, additional identification documents, police certificates and medical test results.
Who is eligible for Express Entry?
Individuals with a college or university degree, skilled work experience, and moderate proficiency in English and/or French are ideal candidates for Express Entry.
In order to submit a profile through the Express Entry system, applicants must also meet the eligibility criteria for one of three federal programs:
- Federal Skilled Worker (FSW)
- Federal Professions (FST)
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
The easiest way to find out if you qualify is to use our free online assessment tool.
What are the express entry requirements?
In general, to be eligible to apply for Express Entry as a skilled worker, you must:
Have at least one year, within the past 10 years, of continuous full-time (or part-time equivalent) work experience in a skilled occupation
Be able to demonstrate on an approved language test at least seven of the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLBs) in English or French
Complete post-secondary education that has been assessed against Canadian standards through the Academic Accreditation Assessment
These are the minimum requirements to apply for Canada's Express Entry system as a skilled worker. Meeting these requirements does not mean that you will receive an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada. Candidates with stronger profiles will always be selected over candidates who meet the minimum requirements.
