macOS 15 set to get a revamped and smarter Calculator app that looks like the one on iOS

It looks like Apple will update the Calculator app for all top Macs. A new report from AppleInsider states that the macOS 15 Calculator will get a redesign to resemble the iOS 17 version, and it will also be revamped with smarter features.

Codenamed “GreyParrot,” this isn’t just a superficial folding process. Apple's Calculator app on macOS is about to get more advanced than ever. For starters, you'll be able to jot down your math whims right in the new Math Notes feature, integrating the best calculator and notes apps. And for anyone who's lost the plot in a sea of numbers, the new date bar is a game changer. The app will likely include a new sidebar that displays all your previous calculation antics, accessible with a single click.

Unit conversion is also getting a much-needed overhaul. Gone are the days of separate steps for mundane transfers. With the updated application, transfers and calculations coexist in harmony. And let's not forget currency conversions, relying on real-time internet data to make financial decisions on the go.

Design-wise, the app sheds its square edges for a more rounded, iOS-like aesthetic that's long overdue. If you feel frustrated with the fixed window size, worry no more. New adjustable window sizes and shape-shifting buttons mean your calculator can now be as big or as small as your heart (or screen) desires.

Part of a major overhaul of macOS

Of course, this new calculator app has not been confirmed by Apple. Apparently it is still in the testing phase. Not everything passes through Apple's pearly gates. But if these features survive the removal, they are expected to debut at WWDC 2024 on June 10. But this new app should be part of a major overhaul of macOS.

We don't know much about the upcoming macOS 15 yet, but we do know that it's in the works and that Apple is ready to unleash its AI capabilities not only for macOS but also for iOS 18. And things will be also different. Unfortunately, it's unclear exactly what might change, although leaker Mark Gurman points to "major new features and designs." We're expecting something that blends the look and feel of iOS and visionOS - as that should be the direction of the next iPhone software.
