Barron Trump: Donald Trump's youngest son to play role at Republican convention

Donald Trump's youngest son, Barron Trump, is poised to enter the political spotlight with his role at the Republican National Convention in July.

Delegates from across the United States are expected to formally choose the party's presidential nominee at the rally in Wisconsin, who is expected to be Barron's father.

The 18-year-old was named to the list of traveling delegates who will attend the event in Florida.

Previously, Barron's mother, Melania, had largely kept him out of the public eye.

Barron, the only child in their nearly two-decade marriage, did not move to Washington immediately after his father's inauguration.

He stayed with his mother in their Trump Tower home in New York to finish his school year before moving elsewhere in the summer of 2017.

His arrival at the White House, at the age of 11, made him the first male child to live there since John F. Kennedy Jr. in 1963.

He attended a private school in Maryland and rarely appeared in public, as his mother was reportedly very protective of his privacy.

Comments about her appearance and behavior from her father's critics often drew sharp rebukes from the First Lady's office, as well as former firstborns, including Chelsea Clinton.

Since the family moved to Florida after the presidency, Barron attended private school in Palm Beach and went on an impressive growth spurt – he is now 6 feet 7 inches (201 cm) tall.

The high school senior, who will graduate next week, is on Florida's delegate list alongside a number of the former president's close allies, according to NBC News.

The list includes Barron's half-siblings Eric, Donald Jr. and Tiffany, but not Ivanka, who has publicly said she will not be part of her father's re-election campaign.

In a statement to US media, Florida party chairman Evan Bauer said: "We are fortunate to have a great group of local leaders, elected officials and members of the Trump family working together in the Florida delegation. »

A Trump campaign official told ABC News that Barron was "very interested in the political process in our country."

The party convention, which will be held in Milwaukee from July 15 to 18, will see the confirmation of Trump's nomination for the Republican Party in the presidential elections scheduled for November.

He won enough statewide primaries – including one in Florida – to win the nomination. Each of the 50 states and several territories are sending delegates to the convention to formally vote for their presidential candidate, which should be a simple process given the lack of a real challenge to Trump.

The former president has already won 2,037 delegates in the Republican primary, far more than the 1,215 delegates needed to win the party's nomination.

Across the political divide, President Joe Biden is expected to be confirmed as the Democratic nominee at his party's convention in Chicago next August, setting up the first U.S. presidential contest since 1956, when Dwight Eisenhower, a Republican , had beaten Adlai Stevenson. Again. , Democrat.

This time, Trump is juggling his campaign and his legal battles. He faces dozens of criminal charges in four separate cases.

His first criminal trial took place in New York, where he was charged with falsifying business records. He denies any wrongdoing.

He received special permission from the judge to spend time outside of court to attend Barron's high school graduation next week.
