Trump announces major endorsement in crucial battleground Senate race

Former President Donald Trump has thrown major support into what is expected to be one of the most closely watched Senate elections of the year.

Trump announced in a post on Truth Social on Sunday that he would support former U.S. Army Capt. Sam Brown to take on Nevada's Democratic incumbent Sen. Jacky Rosen in November.

“Sam Brown is a fearless American patriot and Purple Heart recipient who has proven he has the “sheer determination” and courage to stand up to our enemies, both foreign and domestic. Sam Brown is now running for U.S. Senate in the great state of Nevada. “, Trump wrote. “Mainly because he knows that crook Joe Biden and the radical left pose a threat to democracy. »

“Our country can no longer resist this corrupt and incompetent “president.” As your next senator, Sam will fight tirelessly to secure our borders, end immigrant crime, stop inflation, grow our economy, and strengthen our economy. our great military, veterans, protect our region which is still under siege (2nd amendment) and restore peace by force…” he added.

Trump later praised Brown's wife, Amy, in a second message, and highlighted the injuries he suffered while deployed to Afghanistan.

Brown thanked Trump in a statement to Fox News Digital after his support.

“Thank you, President Trump, for your leadership and support. I look forward to working with you to achieve a better future for every Nevadan when we both win in November!” he said.

Brown beat out his biggest rival, former U.S. Ambassador to Iceland Jeff Gunter, for support after the two candidates and their close Trump supporters clashed behind the scenes over the former president's support.

"Mitch McConnell's money wins, the American people lose. Rinse and repeat," Guenther told Fox in a statement after the endorsement was announced.

Brown is now the likely favorite to win the Republican primary, the winner of which is expected to face Rosen in the November general election.

There have been few polls on the race so far, but a New York Times poll taken in April and May showed Brown and Rosen running at 41 percent each, with vote counts still to be determined.

Republicans view Nevada as one of the party's best opportunities as it seeks to regain control of the Senate from Democrats, who currently hold a slim 51-49 majority.
