Republicans Subpoena Everyone and Anyone Over Epstein—Except Trump

The move comes as the president tries to move on from the issue.

The House Oversight Committee has subpoenaed Bill and Hillary Clinton, along with several other prominent figures, for information on sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, with one notable exception: Donald Trump.

As the debate over the Epstein files continues, the Republican-led committee on Tuesday sought testimony from various Democrats and Republicans, including the Clintons, former FBI Director James Comey, and former Attorneys General Merrick Garland, William Barr, Jeff Sessions, Eric Holder, Loretta Lynch, and Alberto Gonzales.

Committee Chairman James Comer also subpoenaed the Justice Department, demanding that it turn over “the complete, unredacted Epstein files” by August 19.

In his letter to former President Clinton, Coomer wrote: “By your own admission, you traveled on Jeffrey Epstein’s private plane four times in 2002 and 2003.”

The letter added, misspelling Maxwell’s first name: “It is also alleged that you were close to Ms. Ghislaine Maxwell, an accomplice of Epstein, and that you allegedly attended an intimate dinner with her in 2014, three years after reports emerged of her involvement in Mr. Epstein’s child sexual abuse.”

“In accordance with this directive, please see the attached summons for a hearing on October 14, 2025.”

However, the president’s demands did not reach Trump himself, despite his close friendship with Epstein for years.

These included hosting parties with the financier in Manhattan and Palm Beach, traveling on his private plane, and welcoming him as a member of his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida.

Like Clinton, Trump has repeatedly denied any knowledge of Epstein’s crimes.

But the president has come under heavy criticism in recent days after Maxwell, sentenced to 20 years in prison for recruiting and sexually abusing minors, received a favorable transfer agreement from her federal prison in Florida to a lower-security facility in Texas, near her family.

The 63-year-old woman was transferred days after Trump sent Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche—his former personal lawyer—to meet with Maxwell, who is now seeking new plea deals in exchange for information.

Trump has also not ruled out the possibility of pardoning Maxwell, despite the risk of reigniting the debate over the “Make America Great Again” plan on a military base.

Tuesday’s wave of subpoenas follows a subcommittee vote last month in favor of subpoenaing the U.S. Justice Department for Epstein’s records, with three Republicans joining the Democratic proposal.

However, it is unclear whether those targeted will comply or how long the process might take.

According to the committee’s letters, the former president was asked to pardon Maxwell. Clinton was summoned before the committee on October 14, while former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was summoned on October 9.

The letter addressed to her stated: “Your husband has reportedly been close to Ms. Maxwell, while Ms. Maxwell’s nephew worked on your 2008 presidential campaign and was appointed to the State Department shortly after you became Secretary of State.”

Maxwell has also agreed to testify before the House Oversight Committee, but only if she is pardoned, receives their questions in advance, and is not required to testify until her appeal concludes later this year. The committee has already ruled out any form of pardon.
