Deputy Director Dan Bongino didn’t even seem to notice the damning slip.

On Thursday, FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino offered a rather baffling excuse for his comments on conspiracy theories surrounding the pipe bombs planted at the Democratic and Republican National Conventions five years ago.

Following the arrest of a suspect in the attempted bombing earlier that day, Fox News’ Sean Hannity questioned Bongino about his earlier statements that the government was involved in a massive cover-up and that the pipe bombs were likely the work of insiders.

“Look, Sean, I’ve been paid for my opinions before. That’s clear. And I’ll get back to that kind of work someday. But that’s not what I’m paid for today. I’m paid to be your deputy director, and our investigations are based on facts,” Bongino said.

The former talk show host then launched into further speculation about this alleged “sham collusion.” It would seem, therefore, that Bongino isn’t finished making his case. Hannity was referring to comments initially made by Bongino about X shortly after the January 6, 2021 riots, and also last January, just one month before his appointment as FBI director. Bongino had indicated that the agency had identified a suspect, but “did not want to tell us because it’s an internal procedure.”
