Stunning Reason for Trump War Plan Reversal Exposed

Turns out that there’s a lot more to the president’s sudden U-turn.

The reason behind President Donald Trump’s decision to abandon his naval mission—aimed at ensuring the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz—has been revealed.

On Tuesday, Trump—aged 79—announced in a post on the “Truth Social” platform that he had abruptly decided to put an end to “Project Freedom,” a mission he had unveiled just the previous Sunday.

The President stated that the decision to “pause” the operation had been made at the request of “Pakistan and other countries,” adding that the U.S. naval blockade imposed on Iran would remain “remain in full force and effect.”

Indeed, NBC News reported on Wednesday that Trump had already irked key Gulf allies simply by announcing “Project Freedom” in the first place. Citing two officials, the report sheds light on the moments immediately following Trump’s announcement, as well as the factors that ultimately compelled him to make the decision to suspend the mission.

The two officials indicated that Saudi Arabia had informed the United States that it would not authorize the U.S. military to conduct air operations from Prince Sultan Air Base, located southeast of Riyadh. They further explained that the United States would also be barred from using Saudi airspace to support efforts aimed at reopening the Strait.

According to these officials, after a phone call between Trump and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman failed to resolve the issue, the President acted swiftly to abruptly suspend “Project Freedom” in order to restore the U.S. military’s crucial access to Saudi airspace.

“The problem with that premise is that things are happening quickly in real time,” a Saudi source said of Trump’s initial “Project Freedom” announcement, noting Saudi Arabia was “very supportive of the diplomatic efforts” that Pakistan has undertaken as the intermediary between the U.S. and Iran.

The United States maintains military assets—including aerial refueling aircraft—at Prince Sultan Air Base. A U.S. official told NBC that the ability to access and operate from this base helps support the war effort against Iran.

“Because of geography, you need cooperation from regional partners to utilize their airspace along their borders,” one official said, noting that military aircraft protected ships during “Project Freedom.”

The report indicates that other close Gulf allies were also caught off guard by Trump’s post, although he did not name them specifically.

Nevertheless, NBC cited a Middle Eastern diplomat claiming that the United States had coordinated its actions with the Sultanate of Oman only after Trump had already made his announcement. In response to a question regarding whether Gulf leaders had been surprised by Trump’s post, the White House told NBC that “regional allies had been informed in advance.”

On Tuesday, The New York Times reported that only three U.S. ships had successfully transited the strait since the mission began. Trump’s “war” against Iran has impacted global oil supplies, triggering a massive surge in fuel prices, as Tehran continues to tighten its stranglehold on this vital shipping lane.

A Saudi source told NBC that Trump and Prince Bin Salman were “in regular contact,” adding that Vice President J.D. Vance, Senator Marco Rubio, and U.S. Central Command were also holding discussions with Saudi officials regarding the situation.

“The U.S. made an announcement and then coordinated with us,” the diplomat said, adding, “we were not upset or angry.”

For his part, political strategist David Axelrod—who served as a senior advisor to former President Barack Obama—mocked the latest developments in Trump’s “war” against Iran.

On Wednesday, Axelrod posted a comment on the platform X regarding the Saudi intervention in the strait, writing: “What a total mess!”

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif posted a tweet on Wednesday on the platform “X,” in which he expressed his support for Mr. Trump and lauded his “courageous leadership” regarding his decision to suspend “Project Freedom.”

Mr. Sharif also acknowledged the Crown Prince’s involvement in these recent developments.

Mr. Sharif wrote: “President Trump’s gracious response to the request made by Pakistan and other brotherly countries, particularly the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and my dear brother Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia H.R.H Prince Mohammed bin Salman, will go a long way towards advancing regional peace, stability and reconciliation during this sensitive period,”

He added that Pakistan remains confident that “the current momentum will lead to a lasting agreement that secures durable peace and stability for the region and beyond.”
