California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized Trump’s lies and appearances in his latest attack on the president.
Trump, 79, was at the British Prime Minister’s country residence, Checkers, where he repeated his usual list of lies, including his claim that “we won 2020 hands down.”
President Trump was celebrating the suspension of comedian Jimmy Kimmel, and Newsom asserted that while Kimmel could be suspended for a joke, Trump shouldn’t be allowed to lie on air.
The California governor’s press office released a Fox News video of Trump making this and other statements on Channel X. The office wrote: “DOZY DON WHO LOOKS AWFUL RECENTLY (“THE HANDS”) IS LYING ON LIVE TELEVISION!”
These remarks follow Trump’s return to the spotlight during his state visit. His ankles were visible for all to see when he and First Lady Melania stepped off Marine One at the White House after their transatlantic flight.
His hands were prominent during his meeting with the King and Queen of England. As usual, he wore heavy makeup on his right hand to conceal a recurring bruise. His drooping face, on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks earlier this month, also raised concerns.
During a visit to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s country residence, Trump falsely claimed, “We’ve solved the inflation problem, we’ve solved the price problem.” In reality, inflation has been rising since May.
He also claimed that China was paying tariffs to the United States, when domestic importers were bearing the brunt. He spoke at length about foreign aid, vaguely stating that “the United States is fighting this war for $350 billion,” without specifying which conflict he was referring to.
These allegations, along with complaints about immigration under former President Joe Biden, prisons, Nancy Pelosi, and the January 6 riots, were enough for Newsom’s office to issue a sarcastic call to kick Trump off television.
HIS SO CALLED “FCC CHAIR” BRENDAN CARR MUST IMMEDIATELY APPLY THE MADE UP “JIMMY KIMMEL” RULE AND KICK TRUMP OFF TV!!! LETS GO BRENDAN! — GCN,” the post continued.
The message was a reference to ABC’s suspension of Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show. “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” was suspended indefinitely Wednesday due to a joke Kimmel made Monday about Donald Trump’s grief over the death of far-right activist Charlie Kirk.
FCC Chairman Brendan Carr said the anchor’s comments wrongly linked Kirk’s alleged killer, Tyler Robinson, to the Make America Great Again movement.
“The issue raised here, which has sparked widespread outrage, was not a joke,” Carr said Thursday on CNBC.
However, his critics see the decision as an abuse of power by Carr and an attack on free speech. Tom Wheeler, a former chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) appointed by President Barack Obama, said, “The FCC chairman is not meant to be a watchdog.”
The outcry didn’t stop Trump from addressing reporters aboard Air Force One upon his return to the United States from a mission to Britain, and he considered revoking other broadcast licenses. He said, “All they give me is bad publicity and bad media coverage. They get a license.” I think their license should perhaps be revoked.”
Newsom’s press secretary responded: “Yes, it’s a clear violation of the Constitution.”
