Hot Mic Catches PM Correcting Trump’s Senior Moment

Mark Carney stepped in to correct the president after he mixed up his title during his rambling speech.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney joked about addressing President Donald Trump after referring to the North American leader as president instead of prime minister.

The 79-year-old president ignored the press and shook hands with world leaders at a Middle East summit on Monday, but the camera continued to roll and the microphone was still working after his speech.

Carney was heard saying, “Well, I’m happy to be promoted to president,” before laughing.

Trump paused when he realized his mistake and lightly slapped Carney before responding with a smile, “At least I didn’t say governor.”

The president had referred to Carney’s predecessor, Justin Trudeau, as governor on numerous occasions as part of his efforts to make Canada the 51st state. However, he renounced this claim when Carney took office.

Trump’s speech, which followed the signing of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, Egypt, lasted nearly half an hour, alternating between thanking world leaders and delving into unrelated topics.

Regarding the praise for Canada, Trump said, “The president called to see if it was worth attending the summit.” He also directly addressed Carney as “Mr. President.”

The president made a lengthy remark while observing the other leaders in the room. He repeatedly asked why some leaders were standing with him on stage during his speech.

Upon approaching French President Emmanuel Macron, Trump was surprised to see he was not among the standing audience.

“France, thank you very much, Emmanuel,” Trump said, looking around before spotting the president in the audience. “I imagine Emmanuel standing somewhere behind me. I can’t believe it. You’re taking a calm demeanor today.” »

Moments later, the president greeted Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who is working to dismantle the country’s democracy.

“Victor, where is Victor? We love Victor. Victor, as I call him, I give him a little personal touch,” Trump said. “You are great. I know many disagree with me, but I’m the only one who matters. You are great.”

The president praised Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, calling her beautiful when he noticed her presence. She was the only female leader on stage at the summit, and she kept smiling when he criticized her presence.

“Italy. We have a woman, a young woman—I’m not allowed to say this, because it’s usually the end of a political career—she’s a beautiful young woman,” Trump said. “If you use the word ‘beautiful’ in the United States for a woman, it’s the end of a political career, but I’ll take the risk.”

When it came to Norway, Trump was still bitter about not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, awarded Friday by the Norwegian Nobel Committee.

“We have Norway. Oh Norway. Ayayay. Norway. What happened, Norway? What happened?” he asked, looking around, unable to immediately locate his leader.

In another moment of silence, after Trump asked the press to leave the room during his talks with world leaders, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto approached him.

Their conversation was largely inaudible, but the name “Eric” was clearly audible—perhaps a reference to Trump’s son, who now heads the Trump Organization.
