MAGA Has Full Red Scare Meltdown Over One Word in Mamdani’s Speech
The New York City mayor had a ceremonial inauguration at City Hall on New Year’s Day.

New York City Mayor Zahran Mamdani’s promise to instill a “spirit of solidarity” has triggered a wave of hysteria among leading figures of the MAGA movement.
His inauguration speech on Thursday capped a year of remarkable success. At 34, he rose from relative obscurity to the mayoralty of the nation’s largest city, a journey that culminated in his commitment to the progressive agenda that propelled him to power.
“We will replace the coldness of extreme individualism with the warmth of the collective,” he told the crowd gathered outside Manhattan City Hall. “If our campaign proved that New Yorkers yearn for solidarity, let this administration strive to strengthen it.
Because no matter what you eat, the language you speak, your religion, or your background, the words that best define us are the ones we all share: New Yorkers.”

Since then, several figures from the MAGA movement and the far right have expressed their anger at Mamdani’s remarks on “collectivism,” fueling a climate of controversy suggesting that Democrats are trying to impose communism through the new mayor.
“No, actually, we are Americans and we don’t believe in this nonsense,” tweeted Megyn Kelly, political commentator and podcast host on X.

“This is straight out of Joseph Stalin’s 1928 playbook, where he imposed ‘collectivism.’ The denial of the individual right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness (monopoly) is communism in its purest form. The greatest threat to America is now within.”
Steve Guest, a close Trump ally and former director of the Republican National Committee’s rapid response team, added: “What used to be said in private is now being said in public. New York is embracing communism.” Elsewhere, the House Republicans’ X (formerly Twitter) account provoked a similar reaction, claiming that New York had “officially fallen into the hands of an extremist communist agenda,” and sharing a video of Mamdani’s remarks.
The account added: “Zahran Mamdani is openly declaring war on the self-reliance and perseverance that have made our country great. If extreme individualism is the enemy, then freedom is dead. Communism must be defeated before there is nothing left to save.
” Mamdani, who has already been the target of virulent racist and Islamophobic attacks since his election, has given no indication that he intends to abandon his far-left policies now that he is in office.

“We will govern with confidence and without hesitation, and we will not apologize for our convictions,” Mamdani said. “I was elected as a social democrat, and I will govern as a social democrat. I will not compromise my principles out of fear of being perceived as an extremist.”
