Pete Hegseth Put On Blast Over His Big Lie On Iran Attack: ‘Unqualified Piece Of Trash’
The defense secretary tried to reimagine America's role in the escalating war with Iran following its deadly strikes on the country over the weekend.

On Monday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth delivered a puerile speech to reporters, attempting to portray Iran, not the United States, as the country responsible for the escalation of the Middle East conflict this past weekend.
At a morning press conference, Hegseth claimed that Iran had been waging a “monstrous, unilateral war” for “47 long years,” even though its leaders had not “openly declared” it.
“We did not start this war,” he asserted, “but under the Trump administration, we are ending it.” “
While Mr. Hegseth offered a vague explanation for the conflict, citing a series of ambiguous examples, such as anti-American chants sung by Iranians and sporadic attacks in foreign countries, it was in fact a joint US-Israeli military strike against Iran that triggered the bloody events of recent days in the Middle East.
At the press conference, Hegseth seized upon Trump’s statement that he would not interfere in any potential regime change in Iran after the deadly US attack that killed the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Hegseth, who insisted that the conflict would not become an “endless war” like the Iraq War, said: “This is not a regime change war, but the regime has already changed, and the world is better for it.”
On social media, Hegseth’s detractors mocked his blatant lie about Iran, including Christian writer John Pavlovitz, who wrote on X: “Actually, ya’ll totally started it @SecWar, you unqualified piece of trash.”
