MAGA Rep Vents About Trump’s Wild Priorities in Leaked Audio

In a private conversation, a Republican House member running for re-election expressed frustration with decisions made by President Donald Trump; she argued that these actions harm the party and could even jeopardize Republican seats considered “safe”—or “red”—such as her own.

Stephanie Bice, a Representative from Oklahoma and a prominent ally of the “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) movement, told students that Trump was not helping the Republican image among voters—citing, for instance, his attempts to rename Lake Ontario and his dispute with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney—according to an audio recording obtained by the website The Bulwark.

“We don’t serve our interests when we decide to rename Lake Ontario ‘Lake America.’ I mean, yeah, that sort of thing… it doesn’t help our cause, does it?” Bice said Thursday to students at Oklahoma State University, according to the site.

Bice’s district is rated “R+9” (meaning it leans Republican by a 9-point margin) by the Cook Political Report; however, in the recording, she voiced concerns that Republican voters in her central Oklahoma district might stay home on Election Day due to Trump’s declining popularity.

The Bulwark reported Bice as saying: “The challenge we face is getting past the idea of ​​’I don’t like this guy, so I’m going to vote for the Democrat.’ Because I’m telling you right now, that’s what I’m already hearing.”

Ms. Bice continued: “What’s going to happen is that it will impact me because… one of two things will occur: either they’ll vote for the Democrat—perhaps by splitting their ticket to choose both me and other candidates—or—and this is my biggest fear right now—people simply won’t turn out to vote.”

Ms. Bice also mentioned in the recording that a Republican official had confided in her, saying he was exhausted and fed up with Trump.

“I was at a board meeting yesterday with a group, and one of the execs said to me, ‘I’m a Republican. I’ve been a Republican for a long time, but I have Trump fatigue,’” Bice said, according to The Bulwark. “It’s a fair statement, you know?”

A spokesman for Bice’s re-election campaign told the site that Bice was merely “relaying a comment made by someone else and discussing the importance of Republicans turning out and voting for the entire ticket.”

The spokesperson added: “Congresswoman Bice strongly supports President Trump and his work to secure the border, rebuild our economy, strengthen our military, and put America First. She is proud to have his endorsement and looks forward to continuing to fight with the president to defeat the Democrat socialists. Any suggestion otherwise takes her comments out of context.”

It is worth noting that Ms. Mace voted against Trump’s impeachment following the January 6 Capitol attack and maintains a close alliance with him; she was photographed with Trump in the Oval Office in May 2025 as he signed joint resolutions into law.

Trump endorsed Bice’s re-election bid in March, calling her a “Highly Respected America First Congresswoman.” He told his Truth Social followers that “SHE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!”
