Panicked Trump Makes Desperate Move as Devastating Polls Pile Up
The president has responded to a flurry of negative polling.

President Donald Trump has begun sharing opinion polls on the platform “X” (formerly Twitter) in a desperate attempt to demonstrate his popularity.
Numerous recent polls indicate that Americans are deeply concerned about the state of the economy, the escalating conflict in Iran, and the President’s handling of these issues. However, this perception finds no echo in Mr. Trump’s own mind.
In an effort to regain control of the media narrative, the 79-year-old President shared a screenshot on “Truth Social” displaying details from a poll published by an “X” account named “America First Now.”

Although the account claims to be based in the United States, a disclaimer located in its profile’s “About” section warns users that the profile administrator may have “used a proxy server—such as a Virtual Private Network (VPN)—” to alter the country displayed on their profile.
The account cites data drawn from a Wall Street Journal poll conducted several months ago, yet engages in careful cherry-picking—selecting only the most positive and flattering figures while ignoring those that reflect negative results. In fact, the post completely omits the headline of the Wall Street Journal article—a headline decidedly unflattering to Mr. Trump—which stated: “It’s Trump’s Economy, and Voters Aren’t Happy With It.”
The poll, conducted in January, showed that Republicans held a slight lead regarding the economy and inflation (by a margin of 6 points in each category), as well as on the issue of tariffs (by a margin of 2 points); however, the overall picture was far less rosy.

Voters continued to judge economic performance harshly, and Donald Trump’s approval ratings remained below the satisfaction threshold (in negative territory). Meanwhile, Democrats maintained their lead—47% to 43%—in generic congressional ballot polls. Stripped of this broader context, the claim that “Donald Trump is winning a landslide victory!” appeared far more convincing.
The post concluded with a poll designed by the account itself, worded as follows: “Simple poll. Please be honest! As of today, to what extent do you still trust and support this man? A. 100% B. 50% C. 25% D. 0%.”
To bolster and validate his viewpoint, the President subsequently shared the results of a poll conducted by John McLaughlin—a pollster with whom he maintains deep and close ties.
McLaughlin has served as an advisor to Trump for over a decade, notably during his presidential campaigns of 2016, 2020, and 2024; he also participated, as early as 2011, in formulating preliminary plans for a potential presidential bid in the 2012 election.

In 2020, The Hill newspaper described McLaughlin and his brother, Jim, as Trump’s “most trusted pollsters.” More recently, during the 2026 election campaign in Hungary, his firm predicted a victory for Trump’s ally, Viktor Orbán—who, just days later, suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the opposition.
Trump shared a link to an article published on the website “Newsmax,” titled: “McLaughlin Poll: Voters Back Trump on Iran Issue.”
This article—which displays a clear bias and was written by McLaughlin and his brother—begins with the following assertion: “Despite fierce opposition from left-wing media, a significant majority of likely voters believe that military action is justified to protect American lives.”
They argue that their poll is reliable because they depart from traditional methods, surveying “likely voters” rather than “overrepresenting non-voters and diluting support for Republicans”—a practice that, they allege, is common in many public opinion polls.
The poll they conducted indicates that a majority of voters—52%—support the use of military action to dismantle Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs, while 40% oppose it; this represents a notable increase in support compared to last month.
The survey reveals that this support reaches 87% among Republicans, while also indicating backing from 28% of Democrats and 23% of voters who cast their ballots for Kamala Harris.
Furthermore, the poll notes that support climbs to 67% among those who watched Donald Trump’s speech live—versus 29% opposition—whereas respondents who relied on media coverage appear far more divided.
The two brothers concluded: “The conclusion is inescapable: despite resistance from the media, the American public firmly supports efforts to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear power, and expects this mission to be fully accomplished.”

However, a poll conducted by NBC News between March 30 and April 13 yielded entirely different results. Overall, 63% of adults stated they were dissatisfied with the President’s performance, with 50% expressing strong dissatisfaction.
The percentage of people satisfied with the President’s handling of the conflict with Iran did not exceed 33%, and less than half of that group expressed strong satisfaction—a stark contrast to the 54% who expressed strong dissatisfaction. Approval ratings regarding his handling of inflation and the cost of living were even more lackluster; the percentage of satisfied adults did not exceed 32%, marking an eight-point decline since April 2025.
Trump is also losing popularity and influence within Republican ranks; Although 83% of Republicans continue to view Trump’s performance favorably, this figure represents a four-point drop compared to the beginning of the year. However, the proportion of Republicans expressing strong approval of Trump has fallen by six points, standing at 52%.
This figure—52%—corresponds precisely to the percentage of adults who believe that Trump is “less honest” than other people.
Meanwhile, a national poll conducted by Quinnipiac University—and released on Wednesday—revealed that 40% of registered voters in the United States support launching U.S. military action against Iran, while 53% oppose such a war.
White House spokesperson Davis Engel told The Daily Beast: “The decisive and definitive poll took place on November 5, 2024, when nearly 80 million Americans elected President Trump—by an overwhelming majority—to keep his promises and implement his popular, common-sense agenda. No other president in history has accomplished more for the American people than President Trump, who works tirelessly to create jobs, bring down inflation, make housing affordable for everyone, and much more. The President has already achieved historic progress—not only in America but across the globe—and this is just the beginning, as his agenda continues to make a real impact.”
