Newsom Trolls Trump, 79, for Forgetting Defining Moment of His First Presidency
It seems to have slipped the president’s mind who exactly was the commander-in-chief on Jan. 6.
California Governor Gavin Newsom lashed out at Donald Trump following a baffling late-night post on Truth Social, in which the MAGA leader appeared to forget he was once president of the United States.
The governor, who recently mocked the president by imitating his actions on social media, wrote on Twitter: “IN A LATE NIGHT POST, TRUMP DOES NOT REMEMBER WHO WAS PRESIDENT ON JAN 6, 2021 (HE WAS), WEIRDLY SHOUTS ‘DO SOMETHING’ (LIKELY AT CLOUDS),”
“HIS MENTAL ISSUES ARE VERY BAD!” the post added.
Newsom’s comments referred to a post on Truth Social, published shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday, in which Trump repeated his debunked claims that the Capitol riot was a Democratic Party hoax.
“THE BIDEN FBI PLACED 274 AGENTS INTO THE CROWD ON JANUARY 6,” Trump raged. “If this is so, which it is, a lot of very good people will be owed big apologies. What a SCAM—DO SOMETHING!!! President DJT.”
As Newsom pointed out, Trump was still president on January 6, 2021, making it in fact the Trump FBI, not Biden. This is the second time in two weeks that he has falsely claimed that the January 6 riot was orchestrated. In early September, he posted on Truth Social that the FBI had “secretly, and in violation of all rules, regulations, protocols, and standards, deployed 274 FBI agents into the crowd before and during the January 6 hoax.”
It was unclear why the president’s primary concern about federal agents allegedly orchestrating an insurrection was that they were violating FBI crowd control protocols. But his claims were almost immediately denied by current FBI Director Kash Patel, a Trump appointee, who claimed that these agents were actually sent “after the riot was declared.”
