Trump erupts in a heated rant, claiming the affordability crisis is nothing more than a ‘Democrat scam.’
On Tuesday, during a cabinet meeting at the White House, President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on the term “affordability,” calling it a “Democratic hoax.”
“The word ‘affordability’ is a Democratic hoax! They say it, then move on, and everyone’s like, ‘Oh my God, their prices are lower!’ – No, they’ve had the worst inflation in the history of our country!” Trump declared.
Trump’s attack comes after Democratic candidates heavily emphasized affordability in the recent primaries in Virginia and New Jersey. The strategy appears to have worked: Democrats won both contests by historic margins, suggesting that voters are concerned about the cost of living.
Since those primaries, Trump has incorporated the term “affordability” into his own rhetoric, but his remarks on Tuesday clearly demonstrated that he doesn’t hesitate to ridicule it.
“There’s this fallacious talk from the Democrats about ‘affordability,’ they repeat it all the time, and it doesn’t mean anything to anyone!” he exclaimed, visibly furious.
But Trump didn’t stop there. He targeted a Democratic congresswoman—presumably Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas), whom he repeatedly called “low IQ”—for her frequent use of the term.
“Affordability is a Democrat hoax!” Trump added. “I recently saw a congresswoman with a very low IQ talking about ‘affordability, affordability, affordability’; she didn’t understand it!”
